For Catherine McAuley, Mercy in the form of a compassionate practical response to need was where she believed she was called by God. She saw the Mercy response or the Mercy Way as multi-dimensional.
She had a particular ability to address immediate need in a practical and loving way while at the same time addressing the systemic issues that underpinned those needs.
Anything that advanced human dignity was worthy of her attention and so the scope of her ministry and the span of those to whom she ministered was amazingly wide and varied.
Three extraordinary elements came together in Catherine – her innate love and concern for people, her faith, belief and conviction that she encountered Christ in every person in need and her fertile imagination that envisioned an alternative society.
We have a suite of resources from our own website and from the wider Mercy World. We are grateful to all our contributors.
