Charism is a gift of the Holy Spirit given to a person for the common good. It is the Spirit’s way of being present in our world.
For Sisters of Mercy and the wider community of the Mercy World, our charism was given to us by Catherine McAuley, who actively sought how to be Mercy in nineteenth-century Dublin.
Charism cannot be captured in just words to be handed on to those who follow. Charism is also dynamic!
The Holy Spirit continues to inspire people with the charism to respond to the needs of the present day and moves where it will. Catherine McAuley continues to inspire us to embrace the Mercy Charism and bring mercy to our world.
We share some resources with you here on the Mercy Charism. Some of them have originated from Mercy International Association and some have been shared with us from the wider Mercy World. We are grateful to all our contributors.
