Mercy Global Action Launches 'Mercy Water Campaign' on World Water Day 2023
This year, for the first time in almost half a century, the UN is holding a water conference! Commencing today alongside World Water Day, the aim of the 2023 Water Conference is to unite governments, civil society organisations, and other stakeholders in a concerted effort to accelerate action on the global water crisis.
As we mark the midway point of the UN Water Action Decade and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, it is clear that progress on SDG 6, 'Clean Water and Sanitation', has been alarmingly slow.
To put progress back on track, the UN is asking governments and stakeholders to deliver concrete commitments, pledges, and actions. Together, these commitments will form the UN Water Action Agenda.
Mercy Global Action has already added its commitment - the Mercy Water Campaign - to the UN Water Action Agenda. This campaign aims to empower people across the Mercy World to promote the multiple values of water, reject its commodification and degradation, and lead action in their communities as members of a global Mercy Water Justice Coalition! You can read about our official commitment here.
As a first step in this campaign, our 2023 Water Task Force has produced a 'campaign toolkit' containing a library of educational resources, a video series of water stories from across the Mercy World, and several prayer and reflection materials. Check it out below!
