Outcomes of Inaugural Mercy Water Justice Coalition Task Force

On Wednesday 29 May, 18 passionate individuals from all corners of the world gathered for the first meeting of the inaugural Mercy Water Justice Coalition (MWJC) Task Force.

This group was established to provide direction and leadership on water justice issues, creating a blueprint for the Coalition and future Mercy Water Leaders.

Hailing from Argentina, Australia, Guyana, Kenya, New Zealand, Philippines, Paraguay, and the United States of America, the Task Force members brought with them a diverse range of expertise and backgrounds. Among them were dedicated Sisters of Mercy from the Americas, Australia, Kenya, and the Philippines, as well as a principal, a medical microbiologist, communication specialists, environmental engineer, marine biologist, science educator, global policy and research advocates, and medical professionals.

After 6 months of virtual meetings, the Task Force has successfully concluded.

As part of its work, the group developed a comprehensive position statement, outlining the Coalition’s approach to critical water issues globally, focusing on four key areas:

💧 Water Supply & Stress

💧 Industrial Impact, Pollution & Chemical Contamination

💧 Water as a Public Good

💧 Indigenous Rights & Wisdom

Additionally, Task Force members designed a form to support future Mercy Water Leaders in crafting their localised Water Action Agendas.
