Catherine McAuley postal stamp to feature in new Irish TV series

Scéalta ár Stampí is the title of a new series from TG4, the Irish language TV station, that will look at the stories behind some of Ireland’s postal stamps. Scéalta ár Stampí translates as the story of our stamps.

The series will have six episodes featuring people from all areas of Irish life who will explore the places, faces, music and culture represented on Irish stamps. The series will delve into why these images were chosen and the stories behind them.

Episode Three of the series is entitled mná (women in Irish). Presenter Siún Ní Dhuinn will be looking at some of the Irish women featured on postal stamps including Catherine McAuley, foundress of the Sisters of Mercy and the first House of Mercy on Baggot Street in Dublin.

Siún will speak to Sr Mary Reynolds rsm about Catherine McAuley’s life and legacy and will share some of the places and spaces associated with Catherine in Mercy International Centre on Baggot Street in Dublin.

The episode featuring the Catherine McAuley stamp will air on Thursday, 24 October, at 8.00pm (local time to Ireland) on TG4. The series begins on Thursday 10 October.
