The Academy of Mary Immaculate at 88 Nicholson Street, established in 1857 just two years after the introduction of responsible government in Victoria, is an important landmark of inner suburban Melbourne.

For 150 years the Academy, the oldest girls’ school in the state, has educated girls from all classes of society, and has endeavoured to remain true to the Mercy spirit as exemplified by the foundress, Mother Ursula Frayne.

Memories and experiences of many members of the community of the Academy of Mary Immaculate are presented in 88 Nicholson Street and give us a rich portrait of this historically significant institution.
