The Mercy Education System of the Americas (MESA) is an international system of Mercy education ministries with ministries located in Argentina, Belize, Guam, Honduras, Jamaica, the Philippines, and the United States. As reflected in the first Spirit of the Institute, Mercy Education System holds in trust the ministries of MESA and places its work in the tradition of the foundress of the Sisters of Mercy, Catherine McAuley. Mercy education ministries, the ministries of MESA, though geographically diverse, share a common heritage, legacy and mission. Committed to meeting current needs Mercy education remains a vital component of the works of the Sisters of Mercy. The mission of MESA through its governance and service components upholds this commitment.

Alpha Infant School opened its doors on August 4, 1986, with four children and one Sister of Mercy. Today, over 350 students ages 4 to 6 are enrolled at the institution. Although art has always been a significant part of Marie Henderson's life, it was not until attending Mercy High School in Detroit, MI, that her association with Sister Mary Ignatius Denay, RSM, gave her the impetus to pursue and develop her talent. A few years prior to entering the Sisters of Mercy, in 1985, her artwork began to focus on Catherine McAuley, the first Sister of Mercy.
Named in honor of Catherine McAuley, founder of the Sisters of Mercy, McAuley Ministries is the grant-making foundation of Pittsburgh Mercy. McAuley Ministries, which is celebrating 15 years of grant-making in 2024, serves as a catalyst for change, committing resources and working collaboratively to promote healthy, safe, and vibrant communities. Grant-making priorities include capacity building, education, empowerment, environmental care, essential needs and social services, peacemaking, and whole-person health initiatives for nonprofit organizations which focus on the Hill District, Uptown, and West Oakland, the three Pittsburgh communities historically served by the Sisters of Mercy. McAuley Ministries also provides support to organizations in Southwestern Pennsylvania that are sponsored by the Sisters. Since its founding by the Sisters of Mercy in 2008, McAuley Ministries has awarded 975 grants and community support totaling over $56 million. Mercy Center for Women (MCW) was founded by the sisters of Mercy in January 1994 to provide long term (up to 1 year) transitional housing and support services to homeless women with or without children. MCW was founded by combining the services of two agencies, Hope House, an emergency shelter for women and children, and Grass Roots Opportunities for Women, an advocacy center.

Catherine McAuley Mercy Foundation is the fundraising arm of Sisters of Mercy Urgent Care which provides care for non-life-threatening illnesses and injuries, 7 days a week, 362 days year (closed on Easter, Thanksgiving, and Christmas) without an appointment, at a fraction of the time and cost of an emergency room visit. The not-for-profit urgent care facilities provide an average of $1.5 million in uncompensated care annually and have treated more than 1 million patients since their 1985 inception. In addition, Catherine McAuley Mercy Foundation has supported sending medical teams from Sisters of Mercy Urgent Care to serve in Haiti since the 2010 earthquake. The most recent team in February 2013, cared for 1,079 patients in 5 days! Mercy staff also raised over $35,000 in 2012 to purchase a four-wheel-drive vehicle for the Haitian physicians use in reaching those suffering in the outlying areas of Haiti.

St. Leo’s College, Carlow opened its doors to the first students on1st May 1839. It was named after St. Leo on whose feast day, 11th April, the Sisters of Mercy arrived in Carlow. The school building was part of the convent, and the sense of urgency in providing a centre of education was so great that the school section was completed before the sisters’ accommodation. The present community/living room was the first school. In this one large room the students were organised in little groups. It was the first second-level Mercy school. Today it is a fine complex with close on 850 students.
St. Mary's Secondary School is a Catholic, all girls School under the trusteeship of the Mercy Sisters. It has an eight member Board of Management which consists of four Trustee nominees, two Staff nominees and two parent nominees. It also has a Parents' Council which is affiliated to the Congress of Catholic Secondary School Parents' Association (CSSPA). The school has a students' Representative Council on which each class is represented. It is chaired by the School President who is elected by the entire student body.

Temple Street Children's University Hospital was established in 1872 as a hospital for the poor children of Dublin under the care of the Sisters of Charity.
