Mercy International Centre

Mercy International CentreThe first major effort of the Mercy International Association was the restoration of the original House of Mercy on Baggot Street in Dublin, Ireland for the purpose of extending the spirit of Mercy in a vital manner into the next millennium. Years of dreaming and planning resulted in the re-dedication of the 168 year old building as Mercy International Centre in July of 1994. Sisters, associates, co-workers and friends from around the world visit the cradle of the Sisters of Mercy in order to deepen their understanding of the congregation's heritage and to reflect on how the spirit of Catherine McAuley might by dynamically re-interpreted for our times. Students of the 19th century and of the history of religious life find at Mercy International Centre rich archival sources to support research. Pilgrims praying at the tomb of Catherine McAuley in the Centre's garden find renewed inspiration for their efforts to be a merciful presence to God's people today.

As the vision statement for Mercy International Centre states, the Centre is to be "the home of hospitality and renewal in which friends of Catherine McAuley share in her vision and values, reflect on her heritage and with courage continue the contemporary ministry of Mercy worldwide."

Both the Mercy International Association and the Mercy International Centre reflect the commitment of the Sisters of Mercy to a worldwide vision of Mercy, to a worldwide experience of Mercy.
