Mercy International Communications

We, the Sisters of Mercy, an internationally networked organisation,
have as our shared inheritance the vision of Catherine McAuley.
Our mission of Mercy, which is characterised by action for justice
and compassion, is located in diverse places and cultures throughout
the world. The richness of this diversity often locates us close
to the struggles of people who are in need, especially women
and children.
Our engagement in these Mercy works gives us a capacity and
a responsibility to share these experiences and to invite reflection
on them. Through engaging in processes of theological reflection,
including analysis, critique and reference to the Christian tradition
of Mercy, new insights can inform our practice. When based on
cross-cultural engagements, the reflective function of this nexus
of theory and practice can assist us in our action for social
transformation and reflection of God as Mercy.

The commitment to and engagement in a co-ordinated strategy
for global Mercy communications, using new media, can facilitate
a focussed energy for change in our world, particularly in the
systems and cultures we inhabit for the sake of people whose
struggles remain unknown and whose stories cry out to be told.
The international communication of information across Mercy
Institutes and their works will benefit from an organised approach
to the use of new media, particularly the Internet.
