Kenya - a time to heal and reconcile

After long protracted negotiations, Kenya has once again returned to relative peace and calm. We still have about 350,000 internally displaced persons in the country, to be sorted out. Family members of some of our Sisters are among them.

Carmel McCarthy, RSM, elected to Membership of the Royal Irish Academy

At the General Meeting of the Academy on 15 March 2008, Carmel McCarthy (South Central Province) was among the twenty Irish scholars elected to membership this year. She was formally inducted into Academy membership at a special ceremony on 16 May 2008.

At their May 2008 annual meetings Members of Mercy International Association commissioned the new Board of Directors who begin the task of implementing the MIA Vision. Commissioned to ensuring that Mercy International Association “keeps alive the founding spirit of Catherine among peoples of the world most in need of God’s compassion and mercy” Directors joined Members in praying: ‘May the light of Christ guide us and give us the wisdom to carry out our responsibilities.’

Mass Lobby at Westminster

Sisters of Mercy joined the many Religious who gathered for the Mass Lobby against Climate Change at the Houses of Parliament, Westminster. Organised by CAFOD we were well briefed before we marched on the Houses of Parliament.
