Caroline Ryan rsm (Parramatta Congregation) has been appointed as the new vice postulator for the Australia/New Zealand/Philippines region. Caroline will replace Mary Duffy rsm (ISMAPNG) who retired for health reasons. The Canonisation Committee for the Canonisation of Catherine McAuley is delighted to welcome Caroline among its members and looks forward to working with her into the future as it endeavours to promote Catherine's cause for beatification.

The committee would also like to take this opportunity to extend its heartfelt thanks to Mary Duffy rsm for her generous and very valuable contribution to the work of the Cause and the work of the committee. Mary was a founding member of the committee and has given of herself unstintingly to the many projects that she led and co-ordinated which have contributed to the spread of devotion of Catherine McAuley.

We wish her every blessing into the future and know that we will continue to be united in prayer.

As an NGO with representation at the United Nations, Mercy International Association joins its voice with that of the UN and calls upon all parties to the conflict in Syria to refrain from acts against the civilian population, including children.

More than 20,000 people, mostly civilians, have died in Syria since the uprising against the regime of President Bashar al-Assad began some 20 months ago. A further 2.5 million Syrians urgently need humanitarian aid and more than 340,000 have fled to neighbouring countries according to UN estimates. www.un.org

The CORI Northern Ireland Annual Conference took place on Sunday October 7th. Deirdre Mullan rsm, Director of Partnership for Global Justice, whose experience of the presence and work of Religious throughout the globe has led her to a deep conviction of the enormous impact their work and lives are having today, gave an inspirational paper: 'The Dream of God in our World and our Part in it'.

' ...Sister Miriam Stadulis, 76, was 52 when she walked into the office of the city Housing Authority and asked for a house for a program to help children in the low-income housing development. She got the house and after one year of operation went back and asked for another unit because one was just too small. The authority agreed.[So came to pass the McGlynn Center.]

Thousands of kids later, Stadulis has decided to leave her post to volunteer “wherever” she feels could use her help the most. It’s a bittersweet decision for Stadulis, but one she felt it was time to make...'

A group of 25 sophomore students at Misericordia University have been selected to participate in a unique program that has been designed to develop leadership skills and foster their desire to serve their communities in the spirit of the Religious Sisters of Mercy who founded the institution of higher education in 1924.

Kit Foley, dean of students, developed and launched the Mercy Leadership Program: Lead to Serve in 2011. “This select group of sophomores, for the most part, have been involved in community service in high school and have shown us a passion to lead and serve others,” says Foley. “Our hope is to make sure that their expertise and drive is fostered and the students are guided by the tenets we promote as a Mercy institution.”..

A thought provoking video has been made by students at St Catherine’s College, a small Mercy high school in Wellington, Aotearoa New Zealand. Talented Year 13 Media Studies Students, Anne Isaac, Rachel Duignan and Tessa Reid, have been announced one of three finalists in the New Zealand wide Inspiring Films Competition.

Their short film, titled “Silencio”, has been shortlisted in the Human Rights Category. To view their finished film, click here.  Final winners will be announced 17th November.
